Gardening in Martinsville

Wonderful gardens have flourished for 400 years in the Mid-Atlantic. We are blessed with a climate not too hot and not too cold for almost all of the garden plants we love. Winter is mild enough to let pansies bloom‚ and the hellebores flower early. From February on we are graced with lavish displays of flowering bulbs‚ shrubs‚ and trees. Summer is hot and stormy‚ but after mid-September many of the annual flowers revive and the flaming foliage of our maples‚ oaks‚ and burning bush light up the season of the falling leaves. A few bulbs bloom in early fall‚ and hollies‚ cotoneasters‚ winterberries‚ and barberries ripen fruits the birds love.
